In OUTtv’s chilling new original series Drag in the Dark, five drag artists trade the main stage for haunted mansions, cryptic creaks, and ghostly encounters. If you thought a smoky eye was dramatic, try ghost-hunting in a corset.

In this week’s episode, Banksie steps into the Trick House, where eerie illusions and a mischievous poltergeist await. As the night unfolds, spirits begin to manifest on a creaking Tudor staircase, their shadows flickering in the dim light. With each step, ghostly whispers grow louder, and objects move on their own. Will Banksie conquer the paranormal tricks, or will the spirits of the past prove too powerful to face?

We caught up with the UK-based drag artist to talk about spooky filming locations, why rose quartz backfired, and what really went down when the cameras turned off.

What made you say yes to Drag in the Dark?

Oh, I was just obsessed with the concept. Drag queens in a haunted house? It’s ridiculous and fabulous. I also loved that it was something completely different for me. I’m known for being glamorous and unbothered, but throw me into a pitch-black hallway with a ghost and it’s a whole other story!

Had you ever done anything paranormal or spooky before this?

Absolutely not. I mean, I love horror movies. House of Wax is one of my favourites, the Paris Hilton one obviously, but I never thought I’d be in one! There’s a bit where I fully scream and run away, and that’s very real. No acting involved.

You brought full goth glamour to your look, what inspired that aesthetic?

I wanted something that felt haunted but sexy. I was thinking 1920s Hollywood starlet meets Victorian ghost bride. I love a story in a look, and this was the perfect chance to do something dramatic and spooky and a little camp. Plus, I’m tall, so I thought: let’s be the world’s most glamorous spectre.

What was the scariest moment for you during filming?

There’s one scene where you’re meant to walk down a hallway, and you know something is going to jump out ….but you don’t know when. I was holding hands with someone and I think I bruised them because I squeezed so hard. It was terrifying! I genuinely screamed….I’m not built for horror!

Was there anything unexpected that came up during filming?

Honestly, how much I ended up loving the group dynamic. I thought I’d be too scared or too focused on not falling down stairs, but it was really bonding. We all screamed together and then laughed after. And also, I saw something weird in a mirror that I’m still not convinced was part of the production…

What do you hope viewers take away from Drag in the Dark?

That drag can do anything. It’s not just lip-syncs and clubs — we can do horror, we can be funny, we can be scared out of our minds and still look fabulous. And maybe… that ghosts are real?

If you had to be haunted by one famous drag queen for eternity, who would it be?

Oh, Lily Savage. I’d want someone with good stories and better insults.

Final words for fans before they watch?

Light a candle, pour a drink, and get ready for screams….It’s a ride, darling.

Banksie’s dry wit, Y2K gothic looks, and emotional vulnerability make her a standout in Drag in the Dark — streaming now on OUTtv and OUTflix. Whether you’re in it for the paranormal chills or the drag queen thrills, this show is anything but ordinary.
