Let’s talk about Roller Derby! We’re about to introduce you to the most epic Roller Derby team, and by the time we’re finished with you, you’ll be a super fan.
Take off that Toronto Blue Jays shirt, get that Vancouver Canucks foam finger out my face and listen up! It’s all about the Halifax Harbour Grudges, the most epic Roller Derby team which comprises of a diverse group of amazing women and non-binary folks.
If you don’t know who they are then you’re in luck, because we’ve got a 6 part docu-series that will tell you everything you need to know about the team and Roller Derby. It’s packed with adrenaline, drama and sport – so what’s not to love?
I’m sure I’ve already got you but if not, here’s the elevator pitch… Jumping the Apex follows a group of veteran skaters, the Halifax Harbour Grudges, as they embark on their most important season ever. After 8 years of hard work and a revolving door of leadership, they’ve finally been given the chance to join the international Roller Derby league. The series focuses on the diverse group of women and non-binary folks that have dedicated their lives to the sport. Their attitudes, relationships and skill levels are tested beyond belief. But in the pursuit of becoming a world-class organization, can these small-town players protect the innocence and charm that has made them such a special team?
Now let’s meet the team…
Kaitrin Doll
Position: Jammer
Kaitrin Doll (aka Big Poppa) formerly Alhurta Beef is a jammer for the Halifax Harbour Grudges and has played roller derby for 8 years starting in Ottawa. Kaitrin is perpetually in school and constantly moving. They spend their limited free time adventuring with Wren and their dog Shark and looking for new challenges.
Lyndsay Anderson
Position: Pivot/Blocker
Lyndsay Anderson (aka Bloxie Hart) is a pivot/blocker for the Harbour Grudges and has played roller derby in Halifax for 10 years. When not on the track she can be found teaching fitness classes, eating delicious vegetarian food, and taking care of her demanding chihuahua named Squid.
Wren Bond
Position: Jammer
Wren (aka Tank) is a jammer for the Halifax Harbour Grudges and started playing roller derby in Ottawa 8 years ago. Wren is a new elementary school teacher and aspires to shake up the education system while supporting kids to love who they are! They enjoy Kaitrin, cuddling the shark (their dog), camping, and getting ripped.
Heidi J Loos
Position: Jammer
Heidi J. Loos (aka Raging Radish) is a jammer for the Halifax Harbour Grudges. Radish moved to Halifax from Whitehorse, Yukon in 2018. Off the track, she is a video marketer for a local toy company. Her favourite pastimes include: snuggling her furchildren Darla and Scarlett, hanging out by the sea, dancing, and laughing until she cries!
Nardin Friis
Position: Previously a Blocker
Nardin Friis aka Hank Scorpio was a blocker for the Harbour Grudges and played roller derby in Halifax for nine years. They have two adorable dachshunds Cricket and Rupee, and love spending time outdoors hiking, gardening, and camping.
Tina Babineau-Sturk
Position: Blocker
Tina Babineau Sturk (aka Yabba Dabba DOOM) is a blocker for the Halifax Harbour Grudges. Tina’s obsession with derby started in 2014. Her full-time gig is genetic counselling but she also keeps busy trying to raise four decent human beings and torturing her husband with never ending projects.
