OUTtv Sets Slate of New and Returning Series

OUTtv Commissions Scripted Drama Series Novelette is Trying and Renews Hit Series for Additional Seasons

June 6, 2024 OUTtv, the world’s leading LGBTQ+ streaming service, has commissioned new scripted drama series Novelette is Trying and has also renewed five of its hit series for additional seasons, including Two Brothers, We Three Queens, My Drag is Valid, Good Grief and Killjoy Comedy for second seasons.

Brand new to OUTtv’s service, scripted drama series Novelette is Trying (10 x 10’) follows Novelette, a queer, anti-social Black woman. After she is dumped by her partner, Novelette takes in a quirky roommate which forces her to confront the lack of purpose, love and connection in her life. The series is produced by Novelette is Trying Productions.

Philip Webb, COO of OUTtv, said: “Across our slate, we’re looking to offer content that spotlights and celebrates the multifaceted experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re delighted to be adding Novelette is Trying – a drama series that presents a relatable and touching story we know viewers around the world will resonate with. Additionally, our raft of renewals is testament to the success of our content across our slate, which have built loyal audiences, from dramas and dramedies to documentaries, and we’re looking forward to working with our production partners on these new installments.”

Produced by Meikle Productions, Two Brothers (8 x 10’) has been renewed for a second season. The drama series follows Aiden and Aaron, fraternal twins, one gay and one straight, and the very real struggles they face to find self-acceptance and to fit into a small-town community while being Black.

Scripted short form series We Three Queens (5 x 5’) is also returning for a second season. The series is an offbeat dramedy about Ian Mackay, a broke daycare worker who doesn’t take himself seriously…to a fault. And Lamar Jacobs, his otherwise straight boyfriend who moonlights as an escort for wealthy, middle-aged women. And Delores Levine, the scrappy old widow they live with, who’s determined to make her golden years count. At its heart, We Three Queens is about the unexpected common ground between two millennials trying to find themselves and an old woman who’s ready for a reinvention.

OUTtv is also bringing back My Drag is Valid (10 x 30’) for a second season. Produced by Treyfid Rose Productions, the series features Disasterina, star of Sado Psychiatrist and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, as she interviews a variety of drag artists to showcase different styles of drag in performance, looks and personalities. From seasoned underground fan favorites to lesser-known newbies, Disasterina and her talented guests prove that all drag is valid.

From Pumpkin Patch Productions, scripted dramedy Good Grief (6 x 15’) has also been renewed for a second season. In the series, 68-year-old Abigail begrudgingly crashes a bereavement group therapy session just days after losing her wife of 45 years.  Armed with the remnants of a half-eaten “sorry-for-your-loss” lasagne, Abigail is ready to defend her sunny outlook on life. There she meets Quinn, 35, a widow who has been intensely mourning the loss of her husband for four years.

In addition, OUTtv has renewed Killjoy Comedy (6 x 20’) for a second season. In Killjoy Comedy, get to know six comedians who are staging a stand-up laugh riot, as the series puts the mic in front of comics who are re-writing the old insult comedy playbook.
